SMS Opt-In — CHANNEL Messenger

Last updated: October 5, 2026. This page documents exactly how a CHANNEL Messenger user consents to receive a text message from us, what that message contains, and how they stop. It exists so the consent can be inspected without installing the app.

What the messages are

CHANNEL sends one kind of text message: a six-digit verification code, sent only in direct response to the user tapping Send code in the app a moment earlier. We send no other text message of any kind. A message to a person who does not use CHANNEL goes from the user’s own number through the phone’s own Messages app, and we send nothing.

Where the number is entered and the consent given

There is no web form: CHANNEL has no account system and collects nothing on this website. The number is typed by the user inside the app, on their own device, under Settings → your card → Phone → +. Ticking Find me by beside that number opens the dialog below, which is where the code is requested and where consent is given.

The exact wording shown at that moment:

By tapping Send code you agree to receive a one-time verification code from CHANNEL at this number, by text message. One message per request; we send no marketing or promotional messages. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. See our Privacy Policy at channelmessenger.net/privacy.html.

The message itself

The text a user receives reads:

CHANNEL: your verification code is 123456. It expires in 10 minutes. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. Msg&data rates may apply.

A verification code is one message: there is no follow-up, and no list.

Messages to somebody who does not use CHANNEL

CHANNEL sends none. For a contact who is not on CHANNEL, the app opens the user’s own Messages app, or WhatsApp, Signal or Telegram, with the number filled in, and the user presses send there. The text leaves from the user’s own number; nothing of it passes through our server or our text-message provider.

How the number is handled

The number is used to compute the address an invitation is left at, and is never stored beside an identity. No mobile information, and no phone number given to us in order to receive a text message, is sold or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Consent to receive a verification text is not shared with anyone. The number is disclosed only to the carrier or messaging provider that has to deliver the message the user asked for; for a text to somebody who does not use CHANNEL, the number it is sent to passes through our server to that provider so it can be delivered. This is set out in full in our Privacy Policy.
